What Our Customers Say...
Description
Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Signed
The scarce first edition of this work, signed to the recto of the frontispiece 'W F Goldberg Esq with the author's compliments, Dec 15 1890'.
Illustrated with eighteen plates, two colour maps, and further vignette woodcuts, by Arthur Shephard after sketches by the author. Collated, complete.
In 1889, Knight sailed to Trindade in a 64-foot yawl named the Alerte. At the time, it was the only detailed written account of the island.
With sixteen pages of advertisements to the rear.
Knight's work inspired Arthur Ransome's description of Crab Island in 'Peter Duck'; he used Knight's description of Trinidade's geographical features in the novel.
