A handsome half morocco copy of this fascinating and unusual title examining the inmates in prisons across Paris.
With gilt decoration and raised bands to the spine, and marbled pictorial boards.
Features beautifully rendered vignette illustrations, 1 unnumbered graph plate, and 6 plates of diagrams and photograph portraits to the rear of the book.
Includes a preface written by French Physician and Criminologist Alexander Lacassagne, famous for his saying "Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves".
Condition
Bound in red half morocco. Externally, in lovely condition. Evidence of paper spine tip removal - one still present. The odd marks to boards. Scuffs to pictorial boards. Rubbing to extremities. Very minor rubbing to leather joints at tail. Closed tear to marbled front free endpaper. Bookplate to front paste down. Rear joint starting. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, with occasional spotting. Contemporary ink inscription to reverse of front free endpaper. Spotting and mild age toning to two folding tables, otherwise in very good condition.
