The editor's presentation copy, inscribed by the editor, George Weddell, to the front free endpaper: '** Hartfield Walker with best wishes from the editor xmas 1891'.

A fascinating facsimile of a handwritten manuscript dating back to the early seventeenth century, containing a series of household medical remedies, recipes and notes on household management. This fascinating work was compiled with an introduction by George Weddell, providing a historical account of the family and the origin of the work. The original manuscript was written by the Fairfax family and was handed down through the generations, with contributions up to the eighteenth century.
