The first trade edition. The original work was a handwritten manuscript, with this being a facsimile of that original copy. 

The editor's presentation copy, inscribed by the editor, George Weddell, to the front free endpaper: '** Hartfield Walker with best wishes from the editor xmas 1891'. 

In the publisher's original full calf with gilt details.

This fascinating work was compiled with an introduction by George Weddell, providing a historical account of the family and the origin of the work. The original manuscript was written by the Fairfax family and was handed down through the generations, with contributions up to the eighteenth century.

Condition

In the publisher's original calf. Externally, slight loss to the head of the spine, rubbing to the spine and extremities, and slight marks to the boards. Author's inscription to the front free endpaper. Internally firmly bound with lightly age toned and clean pages.
