Bound in signed quarter vellum by Riviere, with cloth boards and decorative gilt to the spine.
Illustrated by eminent including George Cruikshank, John Leech. With a frontispiece and eighteen plates as well as numerous vignettes. Collated, complete.
Supposedly written by one Thomas Ingoldsby of Tappington Manor, 'The Ingoldsby Legends' comprise myths, ghost stories and poems actually written by English clergyman Richard Harris Barham. The tales proved immensely popular from their first printings in magazine 'Bentley's Miscellany' and 'The New Monthly Magazine'.
Condition
In signed quarter vellum by Riviere. Externally, with marks to the vellum and minor rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spots to the endpapers.
