Description

These volumes were first published in 1863, 1865 and 1870 respectively. Containing fifty lectures exploring the history of the Jewish church, with lectures on the call of Abraham, the Exodus, the battle of Beth-Horon, Gideon, the fall of Shiloh, Malachi, the fall of Babylon, Alexandria and Herod, amongst countless other things.

Written by Arthur Penrhyn Stanley (1815-1881), an Anglican priest, historian and co-founder of the Palestine Exploration Fund.

Illustrated with maps and plans, as well as a frontispiece portrait of the author to the first volume. Volume I contains two folding maps, volume II contains three, with the map of the plain of Esdraelon having been torn in two with the loose piece preserved. Volume III contains two maps. 

Collated, complete.

In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just light general wear. Ownership bookplates to the front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
