First edition. Illustrated with fifteen plates and numerous in-text images. Collated complete. Following several introductory chapters to the seasonal variation in bird life, migrating patterns, and diseases of birds at the borders, Chapman goes on to share his observations of broad range of bird species including wildfowl, grey geese, grebes, and ducks. Written by Abel Chapman, an English hunter-naturalist who contributed in saving the Spanish Ibex from extinction and helped in the establishment of South Africa's first game reserve.
Condition
In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. The odd small split to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine with a 2" split to the rear joint. Hinges just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with minor age toning to the extremities. A 5" closed tear to the title page. Light spotting and further age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown with bookplate residue to the front endpaper.
