A late-Victorian travel guide in two parts, issued for visitors to the Exhibition of 1889, offering practical information for travellers together with descriptions of Parisian monuments, museums, boulevards, hotels, restaurants, transport, entertainment, and the newly constructed Eiffel Tower.

Written by Sieverts Drewett, a travel writer and journalist whose handbooks for Bemrose were aimed at British tourists and emphasised straightforward navigation of foreign cities during the height of European World’s Fairs.

With 13 pages of publisher’s advertisements to the front, followed by a page of common French phrases.

Condition

In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with pictorial paper boards. Externally, smart. The odd minor handling mark to boards. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Slight soiling to boards. Previous bookseller's discreet blind stamp to front free endpaper. Front hinge slightly cracked, but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean if characteristically age toned with the odd spot, heavier to first and last few leaves and fore edge.
