J. R. Werner offers a contemporary account of part of Henry Morton Stanley's Emin Pasha Relief Expedition in Central Africa.

He focuses on the rear-guard left under Major Edmund Barttelot on the Aruwimi River, describing the harsh conditions, disorganisation, and tragic events that befell the camp during Stanley's absence.

With a prize bookplate to the front pastedown awarding the work to Kenneth McKenzie.

This offers insight into one of the most controversial episodes of nineteenth-century African exploration.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, vibrant, with a touch of shelf wear to back strip tail, and a minor bump to back strip head. Prize bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
