Leather Binding, Very Scarce

A two-volume set of this very scarce work, uniformly bound in a half morocco binding with marbled boards and end papers. Top edge gilt.

Bookplate of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party politician Sir Charles Bine Renshaw (1848-1918) to the front paste down of each volume.

A collection of tracts by Scottish Catholic priest Ninian Winzet (1518–1592), with his translation of the early Chrisitan writings of the Gallic monk Vincentius Lirinensis or Vincent of Lérins.

Volume I contains an introduction detailing the life of Ninian Winzet, a list of his works and editions of his works, an appendix to the introduction and a facsimile title page of the 1562 edition of his tracts. 

Volume II contains a frontispiece showing a photo-lithograph of Winzet's monument, a short introduction, an appendix to the introduction, a facsimile title page of the 1563 edition of the works of Vincentius Lirinensis, as well as historical and glossarial notes.

Edited with an introduction, notes and glossarial index by James King Hewison.

Condition

In a half morocco binding. Externally, excellent. Light rubbing to the raised bands of the spines and to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Many pages are unopened.
