In the publisher's original pictorial paper vellum binding with brass clasps. 

A late-Victorian reproduction from the 1483 Dutch edition printed by Johann Veldener that illustrated the medieval Legendary History of the Cross with 64 woodcuts. Collated, complete. 

A popular devotional narrative centred on the discovery and exaltation of the True Cross, drawing on apocryphal and hagiographic sources. The volume presents each woodcut with accompanying text, retaining the narrative sequence of the incunabula edition.

With an introduction by John Ashton on the bibliographical history of Veldener’s edition and a preface by Sabine Baring-Gould.

With the bookplate of James S. Dearden of Rampside to front paste down (1874-1965), noted antiquary and Honorary Librarian of the Brontë Society.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial paper vellum binding with brass clasps. Externally, smart. Slight discolouration and soiling to extremities and spine. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Slight tarnishing to brass clasps. One or two minor handling marks. Offsetting to endpapers. Bookplate of James. S. Dearden to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with one or two spots. Slight cockling to leaves.
