Includes Gray’s original poems alongside English and Latin verse translations from Petrarch, the Anthologia Græca, and others.
Thomas Gray (1716–1771) was an English poet and scholar, best known for Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard (1751), one of the most famous poems of the 18th century.
Condition
Bound in a full calf binding by Riviere. Externally, very smart. The odd slight handling mark to boards. The odd slight scratch to boards, more so to rear board. Minor rubbing and bumping to extremities. School Prize inscription to the Eton prize sheet bound in with the volume, dated 1893. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with scattered spotting to fore edges of first and last few leaves and the odd spot throughout.
