Two very scarce first edition works, offering accounts of the finances of the City of London in the years 1886 and 1890.
These volumes record the Corporation's revenues from properties, rents, and investments, and set out allocations to civic services, public works, and charitable or trust funds administered through the Chamber of London.
The 1886 volume features two folding charts, with a further two folding charts to the 1890 volume. Collated, complete.
Presented in a systematic accounting format, these volumes illustrate how municipal resources were managed in the late nineteenth century.
Condition
In the publisher's original quarter morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Significant rubbing to joints, back strip, and back strip heads and tails, with small loss to back strip head. Front hinges, and rear hinge of volume I, strained, but firmly held. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned to perimeters, with the odd handling mark.
