As an abolitionist, Stowe wrote the novel to depict the reality of slavery. It had a profound impact on attitudes towards African Americans and slavery in the U.S. and is credited with helping fuel the abolitionist cause in the 1850s. Uncle Tom's Cabin was the second best-selling book of the nineteenth century, following the Bible. Dated from the University of Cambridge Libraries.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light age toning to the extremities with a school prize bookplate to the front pastedown.
