Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, two lithographed maps, one of which is folding, and one hundred and eighty-six wood-cuts in the text. Collated, lacking one lithographed map which has been crossed out to the contents page. An account of the first successful circumnavigation of the northern coast of Asia and Europe achieved by the expedition on the vessel Vega between 1878 and 1880. This work serves as both a travel narrative and a scientific exploration, reflecting on the challenges faced by previous explorers in these treacherous and uncharted waters, while highlighting the geographical discoveries, natural conditions, and different peoples encountered throughout the journey. Written by Nils Adolf Erik Nordenskiold, a Finland-Swedish aristocrat, geologist, mineralogist and Arctic explorer. He was a member of the noble Nordenskiold family of scientists and led the Vega Expedition along the northern coast of Eurasia as the first complete crossing of the Northeast Passage.
