The work of American explorer and medical officer in the American Navy, Elisha Kent Kane. He was senior medical officer in the First Grinnell expedition to rescue or discover the fate of the explorer Sir John Franklin. He was credited with the discovery of an encampment and gravesite from Franklin's lost expedition on Beechey Island.
With a charming contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper dated 1887.
With twenty-four pages of advertisements to the rear.
Condition
In the original decorative cloth binding. Externally, smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Front hinge is strained. Internally, binding is tender. Pages are generally bright and clean, with occasional spots, heaviest to the first and last few pages. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper.
