In the original cloth binding.
A topographical, history and religious study of Jerusalem, specifically the City of David. With discussions of ancient and modern Jerusalem, places of interest, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the city's water supply and water sources, Mount Moriah and more.
Written by one Rev. Aaron Bernstein, formerly a missionary in Jerusalem and author of other works including 'Life of Rabbi Akiba' and 'Essay on the Sabbath'.
This copy previously held by the Palestine Exploration Fund, with their bookplate to the front pastedown and ink impression to the front free endpaper. The Society was founded in 1865 shortly after the completion of the Ordnance Survey of Jerusalem, and is the oldest known organisation in the world created specifically for the study of the Levant religion.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, with fading to the spine and rubbing to the extremities. With a couple minor marks to the boards. Ex libris bookplate of the 'Palestine Exploration Fund' to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the endpapers and scattered spotting to the first and last few leaves. Society ink impression to the front and rear endpapers.
