What Our Customers Say...
Description
Original Binding, Very Scarce
A very scarce instructional poster issued at the opening of the Severn Tunnel.
This offers special instructions for working goods and mineral trains between Severn Tunnel Junction and Bristol Loop Sidings, via the Severn Tunnel, by the Superintendent of the Line, George Nugent Tyrrell, issued on the 24th August 1886.
Tyrrell was a key figure in the development of GWR, and he planned the new services through the tunnel.
The metres long, in 1873, to link South Gloucestershire to Monmouthshire, and remained the longest underwater tunnel in the world for a century. Designed by GWR's chief engineer Sir John Hawkshaw, this tunnel is considered to be his crowning achievement.
