This work offers a combination of philosophy and science in its discussion of the theory of phrenology. It proposes various ways of looking at the skull to predict mental traits.
It also looks at the physiological differences between men and women, and categorises the brain into 'faculties', such as sight, taste, smell, language, calculation, tune and others.
Portraits of notable figures are used as examples, such as Florence Nightingale, Michael Angelo and William Shakespeare.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. Externally, smart. With rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Darkening to the spine and marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Majority of pages have offsetting throughout, but otherwise generally bright and clean.
