First edition. Illustrated with thirty-three plates and the occasional head or tail piece. Collated complete. A detailed historical and architectural study of the old halls of Lancashire and Cheshire, including: Ordsall Hall, Smithells Hall, Wardley Hall, Turton Tower, Hoghton Tower, and Barcroft Hall, amongst others. With chapters on the nature of sites, plans, apartments, and building materials, being the general feature of palatine house architecture. Written by Henry Taylor, an English architectural historian.

Condition

In the original brown cloth binding. Externally, worn with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the cloth. Splits in the cloth to the joints, with joints starting but firm. Loss to the cloth across the spine, particularly to the head with splits and cracks. Sympathetic repairs made to the head of the spine with paper. Hinges tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting and minor age toning to the extremities. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
