    Profusely illustrated with engravings throughout.

    Each chapter intertwines scientific observation based on 19th-century natural history knowledge, with moral and religious commentary, reflecting the belief that studying nature was a form of worship and moral enlightenment.

    Condition

    Bund in a full calf prize binding for The Ruabon Grammar School, bound by Relfe Brothers, London. Externally, generally smart The odd handling mark and scratch to boards. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in slight loss to calf. Previous owner's contemporary ink inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot to first and last few leaves.
