Six volumes of The Life of Samuel Johnson Together With a Journal of A Tour to the Hebrides, being new edition with notes and appendices by Alexander Napier. 

Samuel Johnson has been described as arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English History and these volume explore his fascinating life. During his life, Johnson made lasting contributions as a poet, essayist, critic and biographer. 

Volumes one to four contain the Life of Samuel Johnson and volume five contains The Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides. Volume six contains Johnsoniana Anecdotes of the Late Samuel Johnson by various writers, together with the diary of Dr. Campbell and extracts from that of Madame D'Arblay, newly collected and edited by Robina Napier.  

With a frontispiece to each volume, being a folding frontispiece to vol. v. 
Collated, complete.

Condition

In half calf binding with marbled covered boards. Externally, smart with rubbing to the extremities and spines and marks to the boards. Previous owner inscription to the page after the front free endpaper dated 1909 of all volumes. Front hinge has failed to volumes ii, iv. Front hinges are weak of vols i and vi. Front free endpaper of vol vi is loose. Front board is loosening from the spine to vol ii. Internally, generally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages, some scattered spots throughout the volumes.
