The complete nine volume set of the Bohn's Standard Library editions of Burke's Works. Later editions published between 1884-1891 by George Bell and Sons. Originally published by Henry George Bohn in 1841, who sold his libraries to Bell and Sons in 1864.
In half calf, in half marble boards. Life of Edmund Burke has a frontispiece of the political thinker by artist and Burke's friend Joshua Reynolds.
Bohn intended his library series as a means of bringing classic works to the masses. As one of the most important political philosophers in history and the founder of Conservatism, Burke remains highly influential today. In his Works, we as modern readers can gauge where political conservatism started and understand the figure who shaped it.

Condition
In half calf, half marble boards. Externally, very smart. Faint small marks to spines of volumes II, IV, V, and VII. Fading to front board extremities of Life, and Volume IV, slightly heavier to Volume VII. Slight shelf wear to extremities, with minor rubbing. Rubbing slightly heavier to top right of front board to Life, and volumes II-IV. Faint spotting to calf joints and extremities, lightest to volumes VI and VIII, heavier to volumes I, II and IV. Marble end papers are clean and in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very faint odd spot to title leaves of III, IV, V, and VI, last leaves of IV, and last leaf of I and VII.
