A very scarce article.
A criticism of the Manchester Ship Canal scheme, written by Andrew Provand, a Scottish merchant and Liberal politician. In this work, Provand criticises the scheme, whose first bill had been rejected earlier that year, resulting in large petitions in its favour.
Provand discusses this rise in support for the scheme, criticising their lack in clarity on how much the canal will earn. He explains that the excitement will die down, claiming that the scheme will be disrupted by the competition, and cost and tidal issues.
