A sumptuously bound copy of Ella Wheeler Wilcox's major work, the 1883 first edition of her major poetry collection 'Poems of Passion', which includes the first publication of her poem 'Solitude', which includes the lines 'Laugh, and the world laughs with you; weep, and you weep alone'.
Beautifully bound in full morocco with gilt detailing from Bumpus.
Illustrated with a frontispiece.
With an illustrated bookplate to the front pastedown, and with the 1900 Royal Naval & Military Bazaar bookplate to each front pastedown.
Condition
In a full morocco signed binding by Bumpus, with extensive gilt detailing. Externally, lovely, with boards exceptionally bright. Back strip lightly age toned, as is common with green morocco. Light rubbing to front joints, with front joint starting to head, but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown, with further bookplate to front free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Frontispiece detached to tail but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
