Written by John William Marsh, the rector of St. Michael's in Winchester. This edition was published the year after Marsh died, with corrections provided by Mrs. Marsh and Mrs. Gardiner. First published in 1873.
In this work, Marsh presents the history and progress of the Christian mission work in South America, which was started by British missionary and naval officer Allen Francis Gardiner in the 1830s. Marsh highlights the difficulties faced with this work, and highlights the key figures involved, particularly those who continues Gardiner's work after his death.
Illustrated with four plates and a frontispiece. Collated, complete.

Bound in the publisher's decorative cloth by Spottiswoode. Externally, generally smart, with light soiling and a few damp marks to cloth. Fading causing some discolouration to spine, with a label to the center. Label remnants to front endpaper and binders label to rear paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
