1883 Mediterranean Sea Eastern Sheet Ordnance Map
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Folding Maps, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
A very scarce ordnance map from Edward Stanford, now known as Stanfords.
With the publisher's original card covers, contemporarily inscribed by previous owner to the front label, dated 1891.
Edward Stanford was the only mapmaker in London at a time when high quality cartography was in growing demand, eventually acquiring the prestigious mark of "Stationers to the Queen".
This particular map showcases the Mediterranean Sea (Eastern Sheet), compiled from the most recent surveys, engraved by Davies and Company.
Condition
With the publisher's original marbled card covers. Externally, very smart, with slight edge wear and a previous owner's contemporary ink inscription to the front label. Internally, firmly bound. The map is age toned, with the odd spot.
