An important collection of 34 essays and short stories written by the American author Washington Irving, first published serially from 1819 to 1820, establishing for Irving the pseudonym of Geoffrey Crayon, which he used throughout his career.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and twenty four plates, with numerous further vignette mounted illustrations. Collated, complete.
This was among the first widely read works of American literature in Britain and Europe.

Condition
In a half morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Light rubbing to back strip head, otherwise externally excellent. Monor spotting to text block fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
