A detailed historical study on the invention of and improvements to the microscope, with chapters on the formation of images, illumination, characteristics of cells, different discoveries, the mineral kingdom, and much more. Written by Jabez Hogg, an English ophthalmic surgeon and early photographer. Illustrated by Truffen West, a British plant biologist and artist.

Condition

In the original full brown crushed morocco. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor fading to the spine. The odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Light age toning and minor spotting to the endpapers. School prize bookplate to the front pastedown.
