'Our Wild Indians' is an American work in which the author, Colonel Richard Irving Dodge, explores the customs, traits, habits, religion and social lives of the 'Red Men of the Great West'.

An interesting work providing insight on American views on Native Americans in the nineteenth century.

The author, Richard Irving Dodge, was an important colonel in the United States Army, who had a long and successful career. His great-uncle was Washington Irving.

Condition

In a quarter morocco binding with cloth to the boards, bound by Temple Bindery. Externally, very smart. Light rubbing to the spine label. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional handling mark and spot. Prior owner's pencil to the verso of the frontispiece. Stamp to the frontispiece, offset to the title page, including stamps to a few other pages. Ink to the reverse of the title page. Small closed tear to the head of the title page. Collated, lacking page 651-653, and one chromolithograph plate, to face page 128. Small tide mark to the tail of the frontispiece, and to the head of the plate facing page 492pp
