First edition. A chronicle of the ancient battles and battle-fields of Lancashire, a ceremonial county in North West England. With chapters on the early history of the county, the defeat and death of King Oswald of Northumbria by the Pagan Mercian King Penda, battles in the valley of the Ribble, Athelstan's great victory at Brunanburh, and more. Including reference to Arthurian Legends from the area. Written by Charles Hardwick, an English historian and a priest of the Church of England who became the Archdeacon of Ely.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
