Written by Mill's life-long friend and fellow philosopher, Alexander Bain, who presents a personal view of Mill's life by including his own recollections of his friend.

With the bookplate of Margaret Marriott, a theatrical actress known for her work surrounding the vaudeville genre.

Condition

Bound in the publisher's green cloth. Externally, sound, with bumping to the extremities and a few marks to cloth. Fraying to the backstrip head and light rubbing to the extremities. Rear hinge has failed, front hinge is a little strained. Bookplate to front paste down with a few marks to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with an ink inscription to the half title and a few spots to the fore edge.
