First published in 1869, this work is a collection of short biographical sketches of great figures from history, biblical, classical, medieval, and early modern figures. 

Charlotte M. Yonge was a prolific and hugely popular 19th-century English novelist, often compared to Dickens in terms of her readership, best remembered for The Heir of Redclyffe.

Condition

In a full calf prize binding by Relfe Brothers, London. Prize inscription to front free endpaper. The odd slight handling mark and scratch to boards. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, resulting in very slight loss to calf. Internally, firmly bound. pages bright and clean with the odd spot to first and last few leaves.
