Bound in a half morocco binding with gilt marbled boards. 

First edition.

Originally published with three plates including the frontispiece, this copy is exceptional for having a further thirty-three engraved plates bound in, one loosely inserted and one fold-out. Collated, complete. 

A detailed historical study of Old St Paul’s Cathedral before the Great Fire, drawing on parish records, archival documents, and antiquarian sources to reconstruct its architecture, clergy, monuments. 

William Sparrow Simpson (1828–1897) was Sub-Dean and Librarian of St Paul’s Cathedral, and a noted ecclesiastical antiquary.

Condition

Bound in a half morocco binding with marbled paper boards. Externally, very smart. slight rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in very slight loss to morocco. Bookplate of R. c. Fiske to front paste down. Discreet red dot sticker to rear paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots to fore edge and first and last few leaves.
