What Our Customers Say...
Description
The first edition of the work.
In quarter black morocco. Includes a gilt to top fore edge, marbled endpapers and a frontispiece of Sir Stuart Threipland Bart.
This neat edition of the memoir of the Threipland family and their home of Fingask Castle in the heart of Scotland.
The memoir was originally written in 1853 by Dr. Robert Chambers, who would frequently visit the Threiplands. He was a Scottish publisher, geologist and evolutionary thinker, and was highly influential in mid 19th century scientific and political circles.
The Threiplands first came to Fingask in the late 16th century, with the estate belonging to the family for most of the last 400 years despite having to buy it back four times.
Condition
In quarter morocco. Externally, generally smart. Mark to the front board and minor shelf wear to extremities. Dated newspaper insertion to rear free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the odd spot, most significant to the front and rear of the work.
