Three very scarce programs for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
Including:
'The World', 1880. By Paul Meritt, Henry Petitt, and Augustus Harris, this is a sensational drama, which ran for 50 performances.
'Mother Goose', 1881. A pantomime of the popular fairy tale.
'Fogged, and, Pluck', 1882. 'Pluck' is a sensatial and domestic drama by Henry Pettitt and Augustus Harris.
The Theatre Royal Drury Lane was opened in 1812, being the most recent of four theatres that have stood at that location since 1663, making it the oldest theatre site in London still in use.
Paul Meritt was a theatre manager, dramatic, and author of sensational dramas, his most succesfull work being 'The New Babylon'.
Augustus Harris was a dominant figure in the West End during the 1880s and 90s. He was the lessee of the Theatre Royal, a position he came into in 1879, and continued until his death in 1896.
Henry Pettitt was a dramatist and actor, known for his collaborations with Harris.
Condition
In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, generally smart, lightly age-toned with light handling marks. Edge wear to the wraps, heavier to 'The World', with loss to the tail of the spine. Tear to the tail of the spine of 'Mother Goose'. Ink inscription to the head of the front wrap of 'Mother Goose'. Internally, 'Mother Goose' and 'The World' are unbound as issued, 'Pluck' is generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with a few light handling marks.
