    First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

    A twenty-nine volume set of 'The Theatre', a monthly review of drama, music and the fine arts of the 19th century. A scarce work in large sets. 

    The magazine was originally published from 1877 and 1897, and was edited by Clement Scott from 1880 to 1889. The articles in the magazine included reviews of theatre productions from around the world, theatrical news, short stories, poetry, and biographical sketches of important theatrical and artistic figures of the day.

    Many of the plates are Woodburytype photographs of eminent actors and actresses of the day, including Ellen Terry, Henry Irving, Marion Hood, Helen Maud Holt, George Grossmith, Ada Cavendish, Maurice Barrymore, and more.

    Condition

    In half moroocco bindings, with cloth covered boards. Boards bright, with back strips a touch age toned, and with light rubbing to joints and raised bands, and back strip heads and tails. Tide marks to boards of vol XIV and rear board of vol XXX. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright, with only the odd spot.
