Illustrated with one double-paged colour plate, and five colour plates.
Narrated tale by William Routledge.
Collated, bound without one plate, to the rear paste down.
The illustrations in this work are by Walter Crane, known for being an artist and book illustrator, one of the most influential children's book creators of his time. He often illustrated children's books, including editions of 'The Frog Prince', 'Baby's Own Aesop', and 'The First of May: A Fairy Masque'. He was an admirer of the Pre-Raphaelites, Italian Renaissance, and Japanese art.
Condition
In the original publisher's paper wraps, rebacked with a renewed rear wrap. Externally, generally smart, a little edge worn, with a couple of small chips. Front wrap is a little discoloured. Light handling marks to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with scattered spots.
