    First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

    A first edition.

    Murphy details his hunting adventures in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, combining sporting narratives with descriptions of frontier life, encounters with Native American tribes, and observations on the natural landscape and wildlife. 

    This work discusses the best game regions, the suitable attire, gun types as well as different breeds of the bear, cougar, wolves and others.

    With the stamp and inscription of former owner Horace Czarnikow to the front free endpaper and half title. Horace was the son of sugar broker and investor Julius Caesar Czarnikow.

    With a 32 page publisher's catalogue to the rear, dated April 1879.

    Written by John Mortimer Murphy, an author also known for his 'Rambles in North Western America'.

    Condition

    In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with significant fading to back strip. Hinges strained, with board a touch tender. Former owner's inscription and stamp to front free endpaper and title page head. Internally, binding strained throughout, with central gathering detached and loosely inserted. Pages clean and bright.
