Thomas Babington Macaulay (or Lord Macaulay) was a nineteenth century British historian and Whig politician. He served as the Paymaster General of the United Kingdom from 1846 to 1848. He is most well-known for Lays of Ancient Rome (1842) and The History of England (1848).
Handsomely bound in full diced calf prize binding from Cheltenham College Military and Civil Department, including a prize bookplate to the front pastedown, dated 1880.

Handsomely bound in full diced calf prize binding from Cheltenham College Military and Civil Department with the school's crest gilt stamped to the front board and gilt design to the spine. Externally, smart, with some light shelf wear and marks to the boards. Rubbing to the spines, spine, and extremities. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, front hinge is starting. Pages are generally bright and clean.
