A polemical pamphlet attacking female monarchs by arguing that rule by women is contrary to the Bible. With the majority of the piece focusing on Knox's counterarguments to Calvin's viewpoints on gynarchy, while discussing gynarchy in general. As a staunch Protestant Reformer, Knox opposed Catholic queens on religious grounds, and targeted Queen Mary I, using her reign as an example to argue against female rule over men generally. Written by John Knox, a Scottish minister, Reformed theologian, and writer who was a leader of the country's Reformation and the founder of the Church of Scotland.
