1878 "Aiguilles" La Tour Eiffel Mauchline Ware Wooden Needle Case
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Very Scarce
In the original quarter velvet over celluloid-covered wooden boards, decoratively printed with a vignette of the Eiffel Tower.
This is a late-nineteenth century French needle case.
A charming example of a Belle-Époque Paris souvenir, produced in the decades following the 1889 Exposition Universelle, when memorabilia featuring the newly-constructed Eiffel Tower became fashionable luxury keepsakes.
With the original needle sleeves with gilt decorative borders and gauge numbers (6, 7, 8, 9, 10), with manufacturer attribution “Aiguilles Supérieures: Fabriquées par W. Bartleet & Sons”, together with the original flannel needle pad and folded card pockets.
Condition
In the original quarter velvet over celluloid-covered wooden boards. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Small sticker to lower corner of rear board. Internally a little worn, with losses to the flannel pad and needle packets, small tears and handling marks. Without the needles.
