A very scarce first edition.

Illustrated throughout by Marie Duval.

A humorous tale featuring Charles H. Ross's early comic strip character Ally Sloper, following Sloper on his adventures at the Paris Exhibition.

Sloper was a lazy schemer, often found 'sloping' through alleys to avoid his creditors. He is one of the earliest comic strip characters in English.

Rebound, with endpapers renewed.

Condition

Rebound in paper covered boards, with endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Neat restoration to title page perimeters, with light handling marks to title page. Pages lightly age toned due to paper type, otherwise clean and bright.
