A fascinating study exploring the historic conflict between religion and science. This was a popular work, and is one of the most influential works on the conflict thesis.

By John William Draper, a philosopher and chet, who is known for pioneering portrait photography. In 1840, he produced the first detailed photograph of the moon. 

From the library of William Minturn, with his bookplate to the front paste down, and his signature tipped-in to the recto of the front endpaper and to the head of the title page.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A little light rubbing to the joints. Spine is a little faded, with light bumping to the head and tail. A few light marks to the cloth. Spots to the fore edge. Bookplate to the front paste down. Prior owner's signature tipped-in to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. Prior owner's signature pasted to the head of the title page.
