The second edition of this work, which was first published two years prior, and is very scarce in all editions.
The work of English cleric and writer Henry William Pullen, who is noted for his pamphlet 'The Fight at Dame Europa's School', on the Franco-Prussian War.
A novel for children, with a moral message, with its title taking inspiration from the nursery rhyme 'The House that Jack Built'.
The titular 'baby' is actually a five year old girl.
With a former owner's inscription, dated 1878, to front pastedown.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with front joint head and tail starting, but with board firmly held. Inscription pasted to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to title page, with pages otherwise clean and bright.
