The first edition of this lesser known work by poet Algernon Charles Swinburne, an essay in which he criticises the political views of Thomas Carlyle. In particular, Swinburne attacks Carlyle's views on the war between Turkey and Russia, written with a hostile tone.
Swinburne was an eminent Victorian poet, best known today for his writings on taboo topics.

In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, smart. Very light age-toning to the extremities of the wraps and to the spine. Only a few very light handling marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
