Chateaubriand's vivid account of his travels from Paris to Jerusalem at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
The author set out on his travels in 1806, using his new found wealth, after receiving a large sum of money from the Russian Tsarina Elizabeth Alexeievna.
First published in 1811, this is a colourful travel work, with interesting observations on Christianity in the Middle East.
Illustrated with four plates. Collated, complete.
Condition
In a quarter morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, smart. Spine is faded with a few light marks. Light rubbing to the spine and extremities, with minor bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean.
