The author describes his adventures in Persia, and his journey through Khorasan. Baker amassed a great deal of political, geographical and military information on his journey, much of which is relayed here.
Illustrated with a chromolithographic frontispiece, three folding maps, and seven further chromolithographic plates. Collated, complete.
Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed.
With the bookplate of F. Diba to the front pastedown. Diba published a bibliography of Persia in 1981. With a former owner's inscription, dated 1958, to the front free endpaper.
Valentine Baker was a British soldier who during his life served the Ottoman Army, and fought in the Mahdist war.
Condition
Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Significant losses to perimeters of spine label. Bookplate to front pastedown, inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, but generally clean and bright. One map detached, with closed tears and tape repairs and with folding portions of the map very tenderly held. Significant loss and a number of closed tears to final folding map. Small loss to frontispiece.
