Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Uncommon

The German musicologist Carl Engel differentiates between musical myths and facts in this uncommon two-volume work. A first edition, with a frontispiece to volume I. Engel offers a survey of relations between music and folklore in this varied work. With sections on musical myths and folk lore, curiosities in musical literature, music and medicine, and associations between musical traditions and popular stories. Prior owner's stamp to the recto of the front endpaper of both volumes, 'B. J. Findlay'.

Condition

In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, a little worse to the rear board of volume II. Lightly bumped to the head and tail of the volumes, except for the tail of volume I where the cloth is fraying. The front hinge is starting, but firm to volume II. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light spotting to the front and rear of the volume, pages are generally bright and clean with the occasional spot.
