With the bookplate of W.A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the front pastedowns. William Foyle founded Foyles bookshop in 1903 alongside his brother. He purchased Beeleigh Abbey during the Second World War, an impressive twelfth century monastery in Essex. Beeleigh housed his library, one of the largest private libraries in England.

Condition
In half morocco signed bindings, with cloth covered boards. Externally, exceptionally lovely. Rear joint of volume II starting to tail, but firmly held. Front hinge of volume I a touch strained to the tail, but firmly held. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with instances of light spotting to pages facing plates.
