A collection of short stories written by American author Samuel Langhorne Clemens, who wrote under his well-known pseudonym Mark Twain. Known for his humorist works, Twain was celebrated as one of the greatest American writers, being labelled by William Faulkner as "the father of American literature".
A varied selection of Twain's writings, including the first appearance of 'A Ghost Story', in which he satirises superstition in this tale based upon the infamous 19th-century hoax of the Cardiff Giant.
Illustrated with numerous vignettes throughout.

Condition
Bound in the publisher's original blue decorated cloth. Externally, sound, with bumping to the extremities. Rubbing to the cloth, causing a little loss, heavier to the head and tail of the spine. Spine has darkened slightly, with the odd makr to cloth. Hinges are strained with cords visible. Stamps to endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright, with the occasional handling mark, spot or stamp throughout.
